House plants are a great addition to any home – they add more colour, texture and help to purify the air. Although we recommend adding any house plants to your home, there are a few that are best kept in the bedroom as they can help to improve your sleep. Here are our best picks for bedroom house plants:
1. Areca Palm
This beautiful looking plant will look stunning in any bedroom – the benefits it can have on your sleep are a bonus! It starts to purify air immediately and if you suffer from colds or sinus issues, this plant is said to be a must for the bedroom. This is because this plant releases moisture into the air – helping you to breathe easier and clean your airflow.
2. English Ivy
English ivy is extremely popular right now, however, many are opting to buy a fake version made from plastic! We get it, English ivy looks stunning draped down window sills, drawers – even bookcases, but it can be hard to maintain. That being said, the benefits of owning real English ivy are second to none. It’s been noted that this stunning plant can remove up to 94% of airborne faeces and 78% of airborne mould in as little as 12 hours! Not to mention their ability to make the air more tolerable for allergy sufferers. So, if you want to make the air you breathe cleaner and reduce your allergy symptoms – stock up!
3. Aloe Vera
This plant has been credited – by NASA! – for being one of the best plants for air purification. They release an increased amount of oxygen during the night and this makes the air that you breathe purer and better for you. It’s also incredibly stunning to look at and easy to look after – a win, win in our eyes! Aloe Vera can also be used on your skin if it’s cut in half to harvest the ‘juice’ inside. This can then be used to moisturise and even heal the skin – making it the perfect addition to any bedroom for many reasons.
4. Peace Lilly
Not only is this plant beautiful and stunning to look at, but it will also help you to get a better night’s sleep. Peace lilies can also filter out toxic substances – such as formaldehyde and benzene and can even increase the air’s humidity by 5%! This is great for helping you sleep and with the bonus of peace lilies being extremely easy to care for, this makes the perfect house plant for your bedroom.
5. Valerian
Valerian has been used for centuries to aid in better sleep. It’s even been known to help insomnia sufferers drift off to sleep! For it to work as effectively as possible, you’ll need to smell the plant, or you can even place a few of the plant’s leaves in your bath just before bed. If you’d prefer to not do this, make sure to deeply inhale the plant’s scent before getting into bed!
